I need a sort of virtual slider that responds to touch.

Use case:
Light Switch with variable brightness control.

John comes home from work. The lights are off when he gets home. He turns on the lights using the light switch on wall. The light switch is standard except for one difference. Next to the switch is a strip that controls the brightness.

John has a date tonight with Suzy. She is coming over in 1hr. He takes his weekly shower and then puts food on the stove. He is cooking pasta. Suzy's favorite. He sets the table and lights some candles. The door bell rings. John runs to the door tripping over his cat. He hits the floor hard. As he gets up he feels a sharp shooting pain in his ankle. He takes a step and then another one. It is just sprained. He limps slowly over to the door. Before he opens it he puts his finger at the top of the strip next to the light switch. As he slides his finger down the lights start to dim. He does it again, placing his finger at the top of the slider and then sliding it down the strip. The light gets dimmer again.

John opens the door and Suzy comes in and they eat dinner. Then Suzy says it's so romantic in here. Let's make out. Then they make out. The end.

That's what I want.
