Hello everyone, I would like to start off by saying that I really like the SFE site and have enjoyed reading this board for a while... I want to do some simple telemetry with RC planes using a GPS module and transmitter to the base station where I can record the data. I do need the transmitting feature, I can't just log the data inflight and then download it later. My question concerns hooking a GPS module up the UM12; my concern lies in that the UM12 only supports 1200baud and the minimum for and NEMA output seems to be 4800baud.

I know I could just use the LN96 but that extra $100 almost doubles the cost of the project and the UM96 has too short a range. Is there any other way to simply connect the GPS and radio? I know I could get a low-end AVR and simply bitbang the extra serial port, and if I get good results from the inital tests I will probably design a PCB with micro but are there any chips that do this easier?

Thanks
Mike
