I am putting together a remote control that requires feedback from the unit for the LCD display. Should I use a bidirectional set of IR's or a set of transceivers?

which is easier to program, which is more reliable, yada yada?

Gotta recommend the bidirectional IR. Transcievers are nice, but they rarely have range. You'll just have to watch so that you don't mix signals by trying to transmit and recieve at the same time. Actually, you might be able to use a IR transciever driver chip (Microchip makes some for instance) so you wouldn't have to swap interfaces, and the half duplex and coding and such can be offloaded.
