You could also try dropping R7 to 47 from 100 ohms, or adjusting R7 to see if there is a sweet spot. Don't below 33R !

Can you also show the driver circuit, there may be room to maneuver there...

The reason I have limited the current to 50mA is because I plan to have 12 of these plus a uC running from a switching power supply currently supplying 0.5A so it is very borerline as it is, so I may just up the power supply to 1A, but if I lower the R7 to 47 it will be the same again, but I will try anyway just to see if it improves the driving as that is better than limiting my design due to just the power supply!

Also, the driving circuit is literally just the PIC pin as an output through a 1k resistor to the base of the transistor, which I toggle 6-7 times at 25uS to give the drive.
