Does anybody have a source for cheap loadcells? Something similar to what would be found in your average digital bathroom scale.

Cheapest would be is to use strain gauge with some instrumenttaion amp/signal conditioning, try goggle for Vishay strain gages.

A friend of mine works for a large multimational appliance company, he can easily get dozens of scales off all shapes and sizes, with either damaged packaging or other minor defects, try looking for someo similar setup near you perhaps...
