I'm looking to connect the output of a DAC (TLV5618) to an amplified PA speaker (Speco ASPC-20). The speaker is a 12 volt amplified product yet says its input impedance is 8 ohms. The TLV5618 says not to put less than a 2k ohm load on it.

So, what's the best way to marry these two things? Should I use a "fancy" amplifier circuit like a LM386 http://www.futurlec.com/Mini_Audio.shtml or can I get away with just some discrete components since the speaker itself is amplified?

Since the PA speaker has a low input impedance, use an amplifier like your Futurlec example. There mini-boards are well made and cheap. It even looks like they remembered the RC components on the output, which are required for stability. Of course, you can also roll your own amp.
