I have the older Sparkfun LiPo battery (without protection chip) and charger board.
I also have a Solar cell that can get up to 5v in good light.

My plan is to directly attach the solar cell to the 5V input on the charger board. I am worried about power flowing back through the cell when dark however. Most solar designs have a protection diode, but I'm not sure if this is needed with the LiPo charger IC in circuit.
Also, is there a danger of overcharging the battery? Is the charger IC clever enough to stop putting power in when it sees the battery over a certain voltage etc? Or do I need an off switch in line with the solar cell?

Ideas?
