Looking for a solution

Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum and a beginner in the world of wireless/RF design and applications. I have an issue that I'm trying to find a solution to. Those of you with small children have probably had same dilemma. Lost TV remote control! I'm wanting to attach a device to my remote that I can locate with my Android or IOS smart phone. I've investigated bluetooth trackers for a couple of weeks but, even w/o the case, they are too bulky for my taste. That led me to RFID tags. I'm thinking a small UHF RFID tag and a cell phone scanner app. Does this sound like a practical solution? Feel free to flame and ridicule to your heart's content. I realize this is a firecracker question being asked of rocket scientists.
