I'm looking to buy the BlueSMiRF remote module for a project I am doing. Previously I was looking at the 'Easy Radio' modules on www.lprs.co.uk These work on good old 400Mhz, but the tranceivers are £28 a piece. Then I found the BlueSMiRF, which I think would be just as good in my situation (two way, 9600bps), which works out at only £40 posted, and bluetooth is much cooler.

I have a couple of questions before I buy though... :D

Is there any way to find out what sort of signal strength the remote is getting? I ask because the remote will be going on a mobile buggy, so it would be good if I can stop it from going further away from the base if the signal gets weak.

Where is the datasheet for the module - I'd like to know if it's possible to change the bluetooth name of the device, and the PIN? This may well be the answer to my first question too!

Thanks for any help/advice. :)

Request for the AT commands document, it tells you how to change the default name and pin.
