Hi Owen,

Flux core wire refers to a solder wire with a rosin/flux core that allows it to flow/melt more evenly. Most commonly, you'll find this in unleaded solder to help reflow the metal alloy the solder is made of. This section of our How to Solder: Through Hole Soldering goes into this and more in greater detail.
