There are sot23 sockets that are made for prototyping and thus are bulky and expensive (more than 50$).
You can try a sot23 to dip converter board (1$ here at sparkfun).

Use 0ohm 0603 resistors (or 1206 for easier soldering and smaller error margin) to jump over the traces. This way you won't need to make a double sided board.

I use them all the time for prototyping and I also make my own PCBs. Each has its own purpose and cannot replace the other. 1. Build prototype circuit in breadboards. 2. Well the hard part is to find datasheets/detailed specs of parts like this because they're not available to the general public, else we could salvage them from existing devices.
