Photoelectric sensor with Teach Mode?

Hi, I'm working on a project that is supposed to simulate a hockey face off with the computer. The idea is to have a sensor on the floor that determine when the player has swung the stick. I found this sensor https://www.valinonline.com/products/cx-422 and I am curious about how the teach mode works...

Hi, The only 5 pin rotary encoders I have encountered used 3 for 'encoder' part and the other 2 pins were for a momentary push button in the shaft; I haven't seen one that names a 'CLK' signal etc. I'm trying to see activity in the serial monitor. I did something similar to what you are trying to do with a Contrinex.
