Re: Ethernet and CAN

If the CAN traffic is heavy and/or transmit speed is high, you will reach the limit. Not the SPI transmission speed, but the total handling speed. Why not use a micro which has integrated CAN and ethernet. I use LPC1769, which is a Cortex M3 @ 120MHz on a LPCXpresso board. With this board, you only ...

Re: Trying to figure out the best sensor for a project.

I installed and use myself some aftermarket ECU ( Motec, Pectel,...) Strain gauge is the way to go. It is used everywhere in the race world. It will detect when a force is applied to the shift lever. The electronics could be as simple as a comparator which outputs a "1" when the force reach a predef...

Re: Build precision laser target

Admitting you already have a good level, the area you need is only some cm2  , so a simple video camera will do the job. And you can record the complete sequence of breath-adjust-stop breathing-pull the trigger-re breath. This will help you discover parasitic movements during the sequence. ...

Re: GPS module cable length

GPS modules don't like vibrations. Signal reception is affected, even if the antenna is pointing up. I had this problem on a race motorbike. The GPS module was fixed with welcro. Moving it to the tail and fixing it with bolts solved the problem.

Re: Controller Area Network project

CAN shield on arduino will be slow if CAN traffic is heavy. And Arduino is 8 bit at 20MHz. Go for Cortex M3, or M4. Lot of suppliers, lot of evaluation boards, even with small LCD displays, lots of free IDEs, Rtos, existing code,..... Could be NXP with LPC1700 familly. They have can controllers, and...

Re: Need help programming/recovering Logomatic v2

1) your simple main program doesn't send anything on any serial line. 2) you should reprogram the board using Flashmagic connected to Uart0, using a USB-3V3serial cable 3) Without special linker setup, the bootloader was self-overwrited by your application. Have you read the USB bootloader tutorial ...

Does it mean all the IMU solutions using 3D magnetic compass chips are useless when used on RC quadcopter or planes powered by DC motors???

Re: Any experience with 30+ slaves on an I2C bus?

Instead of 30 individuals CS lines, you could use a 5 bits address bus. Each "node" has a decoder and will respond to a unique address. Address 0 could be the "all devices unselected" address, and you will have 31 devices. Or 63 devices with only one additional address line. If you want to add a mic...

Re: Logomatic V2 + ADXL345 + s/w changes

What about building your software structure to also read devices on I2C, like gyro, pressure or other accel sensors ? The configuration could contain various sections which activates a device setup and readings. The firmware will be generic and is configured through the config file. Something like: ...

Current firmware, and the alternative firmware also, are not able to read RPM. It should be rewriten in order to use any timer pin available on the PCB.

I remember there is an alternative firmware for the V2, able to read and log both analog and serial line data. But I can't remember its name. Search on this forum, some threads spoke about it.

Re: Looking to comission a PCB

As a starting point, you should look for "reflow oven controller". These units interface with small oven to use them as reflow unit. Everything is already there: controller, display, sensor interface, button, power supply, etc... Some links I found: http://www.sparkfun.com/products/81  http...

Re: Calculating when a line is crossed

Good idea. I should implement this in the next revision of my design. Thanks. About using double or float. In a special version I made using 10Hz GPS, I only displayed time of current position when line was crossed. The max error was 0.1s. It was enough for my friend, as he was even slower than me :...
