Yes the camera needs power for the video out to work. You can however record onto the SD card and view the video out signal at the same time, great if you want to record for months on a DVR at the same time as recording a couple days of the same HD footage on an SD card using continuous recording mo...

The code to stop recording should be the same to start recording, just trigger the digital out pin that is connected to the arduino to go low for maybe 100ms and then high. The pin should always be high by default and the ground of the arduino should be connected to the ground of the hackhd camera
