Re: IPC Certification for PCB Designer???

HI, no it is not necessary. Does it help get a job? I would say yes it may help but not as much as a degree (or other similar qualification) or lots of experience. However, it does help a designer know what materials they should be using for their chosen PCB, how important providing good instruction...

Re: Error in Sparkfun eagle library? RGB 3mm led

Can you edit the pad information? I have sen this in ther PCB packages, where a pad of a certain size is used in creating the component, whatever the pad is called the software gives it a number (lets say no 80 for this) and then when it is imported into the actual PCB the definitions in the PCB giv...

Re: Which PCB layout software should I use?

I'd go with Eagle given your requirements.
Mainly because there is lots of help with it.

Re: Problems Autorouting pcb with Ver. 7.7.0

Yes and the same reply applies. Put some tape over the auto drive button and take manual control yourself. While autorouted boards may be electrically\spacing correct, according to your design rules -0 I have not met an autorouter yet that can consider current flow, EMC, nor the hundreds of other th...

Re: eagle

Are you using windows 7 onwards? If so use windows explorer to find the folder. Then use the right mouse button to select the properties. Then previous versions tab. Hopefully you should be able to open a folder with the deleted files in, drag them into the current folder. This backup feature has sa...

Re: Problems Autorouting pcb with Ver. 7.7.0

Take a piece of sticky tape and put it on your screen where the autorouter button is. Then layout the board manually - it will be far better, have more consideration given to the tracking and you will have a better feeling of achievement. Autorouters pah! next we will have self driving cars on the r...

Re: Beginner PCB design for LED clock

Well done on your first attempt, some comments below: For U2, U3 and the leftmost one - can the pads change to fingers/ovals like the ULH1 IC ? running tracks between them as round pads can lead to shorts, its far better to have a greater gap between the pads. Whats with the loops for the vcc connec...

4) Would using smds be a better option than through hole components and why? Less holes through the board so less holes in the groundplane underneath. Smaller components taking up less space. Cheaper to assemble. Although connectors are not always as secure as PTH. 5) If I use smds, I would have to ...

Re: exclude smd pad from tCream / gtp

While I'm sure there will be a way in the software I can suggest one method. Make all your manufacturing files except the paste one. Save your job, delete the component with the pads on, make your paste file, close the job without saving, open the job again. :) This should apply for any software as ...

Re: No idea, Resistor help

Trace out the circuit if you can and see what the resistor was protecting.
Something is likely gone short and caused the resistor to go, best to find that.
Check the zener diode next to it.

Re: Gerber files for board greater than 2 layers

Your second PCB and it's 8 layer? wow!
Took me years before I was allowed to go beyond 2 :)

You are checking your Gerbers in GCPrevue aren't you?
Do so, its free.

AFAIK, open your CAM file and select all the internal layers also.
Save this as a new CAM/ULP file.

Re: design a circuit to block a DC voltage

Just to backup the Op, its been a while but ISTR it is common for central battery system to also output DC when the AC fails for fire alarms and emergency lighting. It is inefficient to provide AC as that would flatten the battery quicker, so DC is used. I have built systems that do this. An exit si...

Re: Copying schematic and getting boards copied too?

Can't you use windows explorer, copy and paste the schematic and rename it as a new file.

That will allow you to make a new pcb from the other project.

Re: QFN-16 Package standards

Unfortunately the manufacturers rarely standardize. Take SOT23 for instance, there are about 50+ variations on it. Take your parts datasheet, enter the component dimensions into the PCB libraries Library Expert and produce a footprint for your CAD package. The free version should enable you to do th...
