Re: Wasted time/money on dead product sold by sf

We do have a bit of a problem with linkrot at this point. Years ago, I had a linkchecker script cron'd to run over product pages daily and report 404s. It seems like probably that'd be worth doing again in the near term. Longer-term, we have plans to break resources like datasheets out into their ow...

Re: Home Automation

codlink, we just added a "Forum" tab to the main navigation on sparkfun.com, so a lot of people are probably seeing stuff here for the first time. It's also worth observing that phpBB can be fairly... Opaque, let's say, if you're not used to it. At any rate, I don't see any particular harm in replyi...

Re: Can Raspberry Pi run a Windows executable?

Hey everybody. I know it's standard technical forum culture to let people have it with both barrels for asking simple questions, and I know that as SparkFun employees we've been fairly hands off on the forum in particular, but lately I've been thinking that maybe we should start discouraging overt h...

Re: Comment Section

It does beg the question, what the heck was the person who wrote that section was thinking (or smoking) - maybe too many mushrooms. Hi there. If anyone's looking to discuss whether mushrooms are generally smoked, Erowid is thataway. With that out of the way, comments are ordered first by number of ...

Re: Will Sparkfun accept Bitcoin?

Without getting into the ideological implications of cryptocurrency, we're not opposed to accepting Bitcoin at this point in history. As mentioned, there're payment gateways that make it relatively painless. At this stage it's really only a question of whether our supply of round tuits will spike wh...

Re: Main Site's Comments..

We've spent more time talking about this than I really want to admit. I take the view that we've got a pretty good equilibrium right now: long-term users and employees know they can star a comment, which functions as something of an editorial filter, but it's not a focus of the site to the extent th...

Re: Main Site's Comments..

Strictly speaking, they're ordered first by stars, then by date. We're gonna keep pushing stuff with more stars to the top, but this seems like a pretty valid point, at least for product comments. We'll try it out there over the next few days and see what happens.

Thanks for the input.

Re: Open Links in New Tab/Window

(middle click | ctrl-click | cmd-click | shift-click) is your friend.

Although it's appropriate in a handful of places, the modern consensus is generally that it's best to leave this decision up to the user. We strongly concur.

Re: Suggestion: Add weight to shopping cart and wish list vi

As Paul says, we've got packed weight and dimensions (very roughly) for each product. We have a ticket in for a feature that exposes this information. Someone will write the code as soon as the tuit supply is refreshed.

Re: Post your SparkFun.com bugs and issues here!

I don't, specifically. I just want to be able to login on an SSL secured page without having to trust that the login form on an unsecured page will go to a secured page. On the previous site https://www.sparkfun.com/ would at least give you a secured form. <form method="post" id="login" action="htt...
