Re: Secure credit card payments

Hey popi... congrats on your Free Day Winnings! SparkFun does use a secure connection for our entire ordering process and there's no way around that. We've considered pushing to all HTTPS all the time but that's a challenge right now as we have a lot of content on pages that don't have an explicit n...

Re: Post your SparkFun.com bugs and issues here!

Tutorials should now work 100%: no 404s, all images load, etc.

Please let me know if I missed anything!

[*]Attempting to add 100000000000000 of an item only adds 2147483647 items. :)[/list] The reason we don't check for overload is - if people want to order that many of any one item, LET THEM! :) I suppose we could up the column to a bigint and allow for up to 9,223,372,036,854,775,807 of a single it...

Re: Star ratings next to comments on product pages

In a nutshell, the dark star is the rating on the comment (based on all users rating it up or down) and the light star is the customer's overall rank, an amalgam of all of their comment ranks as well as some order history, time as a SparkFun customer, and some other random junk. More details here: h...

Re: User Rating?

My fluke is now -50. Is there any way to fix this, or am I now a permanent failure in everyone's eyes? I have to ask you to hold out for about another week. Next week is our scheduled deployment for our latest round of upgrades and the fix to which I've referred will hit when that goes out. When th...

Re: User Rating?

"Rank can only be positive." ...my current rank is " –42" is there a system explanation for this, or is it just a fluke? The statement that rank can only be positive was indeed wrong as rank can go negative. That's been fixed. You're rank, however, is a fluke. Your rank specifically was primarily a...

Re: User Rating?

There's a detailed article here . To quickly answer your questions, customer rank is derived from how your comments have been rated and how much business you've done with SparkFun (not just in dollars, but how frequently, how recently, and a few other things). Customer rank and maximum comment lengt...

Re: What ecommerce software does the SF store use?

It started as osCommerce, this is true, but the heavy customization began over four years ago at this point. Very little osCommerce remains and with the next few upcoming deployment cycles we'll see what little is left completely overhauled. The osCommerce backend was deleted years ago in favor of a...

Sorry about that, everybody. We're still getting a lot more traffic than we're used to and our server cluster is still stressed, even this far out from Free Day. We have more hardware on order, after looking at our weakest points and determining the best course of action. I'm sure there will be a ho...

We've been getting a lot of feedback on ways Free Day could have been more equitable or favored existing customers better. Suffice it to say that the next large-scale promotion we do will be very different (if not for the negative feedback from Free Day just for the sake of trying something new). I ...
